International Neuroinformatics Coordinating Facility (INCF)

The International Neuroinformatics Coordinating Facility (INCF) (www.incf.org) is an international non-profit organization devoted to advancing the field of neuroinformatics. The INCF has 16 member countries, of which the US is one.

BIRN’s efforts in neuroimaging datasharing and semantic anotation has led to strong interactions between BIRN and INCF’s Neuroimaging Data Sharing Task Force.  The ongoing development of XCEDE is proceeding through coordination between the XCEDE working group and the INCF Data Sharing Task Force on the needed terms and fields for neuroimaging data sharing at various levels, and organized methods for extracting those terms and fields from DICOM images and image processing software.

In addition, BIRN and the INCF are working together to standardize the collection of data provenance information using the Open Provenance Model. Currently the effort is focused on commonly used data analysis programs such as Freesurfer and SPM.

BIRN is supported by NIH grants 1U24-RR025736, U24-RR021992, U24-RR021760 and by the Collaborative Tools Support Network Award 1U24-RR026057-01.
