The BIRN is charged with creating security requirements and providing solutions for the BIRN community. We offer an open forum, including regular teleconferences and a mailing list, for community members to discuss security requirements, propose and evaluate solutions, and raise issues or concerns.
The Security WG is responsible for defining security policy for BIRN software, designing system-wide security solutions and capabilities such as user registration and user group management, and developing enforcement mechanisms for operating security capabilities. We also work closely with BIRN participants to generate ideas for, and validate proposed offerings of, enhanced security capabilities. In addition, the Security WG ensures availability and operation of hosted security capabilities across the BIRN infrastructure.
Another principal responsibility: providing technical guidance and consulting to help participants integrate and leverage capabilities for maximum benefit to BIRN users. Going forward, we intend to create a process to report potential security vulnerabilities and build the infrastructure to address those concerns quickly and effectively.
